This Week's Staff Spotlight

This year, I will “spotlight” different staff members so that our community can get to know us all!!

Mrs. Christine Nelson, PreSchool Teacher
Miss Christine has lived in Wakefield all her life and went to the Wakefield Public Schools. She decided to go into teaching because she saw how rewarding it was she used to visit “her aunt” at the Yeulle School. She wanted to teach in Wakefield to give children a great school experience like the one she had. Miss Christine also wanted to teach at the Woodville School because her father went to the old Woodville. In her free time, Miss Christine loves to spend time with her family and friends, shop, snowmobile, and go to Patriot’s games.

Mrs. Katie Ralph, PreSchool Paraprofessional
Miss Katie and her husband moved to Wakefield twenty-two years ago and have raised their two children in this beautiful town. She has been employed in the Wakefield Public School Department as a PreSchool aide for twelve years, and she loves working with the little ones. She finds the Woodville School to be a caring, supportive community. She is currently enrolled as an online student at UMASS Amherst, finishing a Bachelor’s Degree that was started there many years ago. In her spare time, Miss Katie enjoys golf, boating, reading, and she loves to cook.

Last Week's Principal's Award

Friday's Principal's Award Winner is Rylie from Mrs. Campbell's Kindergarten class. She is a wonderful example of what the principal's award recipient should be. She is enthusiastic and prepared each day for school and greets everyone with a smile. You can often see her helping her classmates whether they need a partner or help with an activity. She's such a good friend. Rylie is kind and respectful to her teachers and classmates. That's why Mrs. Campbell calls her "Smilie Rylie!"

The Artwork of Woodville PreSchool Students Gannon and Tim was selected by their art teacher Mr. Marino to hang in Principal Brian Middleton-Cox's office for all visitors to enjoy.

Books on the topic of Bullying

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Students in Miss Christine's Afternoon PreSchool class have been working on learning the alphabet. After hearing the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr., the students created their own coconut tree with their name on it.

Art Project

Students in Mr. Marino's Art class took advantage of the fall weather to paint leaves and press them on tee-shirts to create wearable art!!!

3rd Grade Poem Readers

Four of Mr. Verge's students came to my office this week to recite some poetry to me. They were very well rehearsed and it was great to spend time with them!

This Week's Principal's Award

This week’s Principal’s Award goes to Tara in Mr. Bouchard’s fourth grade class. Tara has gotten off to a great start in fourth grade. She has done a super job of listening and following directions. It is a pleasure to teach Tara because she participates frequently and has great ideas to share in class. If the teacher needs
help passing out papers or collecting science and math materials Tara is always wiling to help out. Tara has a great work ethic and her teacher looks forward to a great year with her in fourth grade.

Miss Ellen's Friends

Students in Miss Ellen's PreSchool class were very proud to show me their fall trees and leaves they made with their pictures on them!






On another visit, after listening to the story Ten Apples Up On Top, students were creating their own pictures and working in centers.

International Walk to School Day

Ms. Palumbo and Mr. Feldman helped me give pencils and bookmarks to all the students who walked to school on Friday. It was a beautiful morning and it was wonderful to see all those smiles of students walking to school!!!

Walk to School Day Postponed

Due to the forecast of severe weather for tomorrow, including thunderstorms, we have decided to postpone the Woodville's celebration of International Walk to School Day until Friday 10/8.

Second Grade Pedestrian Program

Woodville School second graders participated in a Pedestrian Safety Training through the support of MassDOT, Safe Routes to School, and Walk Boston. Parent volunteers received a one-hour training session and then taught students skills such as: how to walk safely in a parking lot, procedures for walking on the sidewalk, and crossing the street safely. Literacy Skit

Mrs. Foley's 4th graders acted out a skit after reading the book The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl.

This Week's Principal's Award

This week’s Principal’s Award goes to Monica in Mrs. Siafakas’ Third Grade Class. She demonstrates the Woodville School core values on a daily basis. She is a great help to her teacher and classmates. She always tries her best even if the subject matter is somewhat trying and gives 1,000% effort. Her teacher loves seeing that beautiful smile daily. She is an absolute delight to have in class.

Back to School Night

I am very pleased to announce that we had a successful Back-to-School Night this past Thursday. It was wonderful for me to see so many Woodville families. In addition to learning about the curriculum and seeing your child’s classroom, I’d like to thank you for your support of the PTO events in the cafeteria. We sold over $1375 from the harvest sale, and we’ve raised over $3860 in PTO dues to date. This represents about 45% of our families. If you have not paid your dues, yet, please send your money into the school to the PTO’s attention. Thank you for your generosity and compassion to support our students at the Woodville and the Wakefield community.

Silent Star Award

In our school, classes can earn a "Silent Star" for walking quietly in the hall so that they show respect to other classes in session. This year, when a class earns 15 silent stars, I will treat them to an extra recess. Today, Mrs. Ferguson's and Mr. Bouchard's classes enjoyed some extra time outside as a reward.

The two students pictured below had their artwork chosen by their art teacher, Mrs. Beinart to hang in my office. Dominick and Jordan are very talented artists and I look forward to looking at their artwork as I do my own work.

Volcano in 3S

A student in Mrs. Siafakas' third grade class took his model volcano into school to show his classmates how a volcano erupts. The students were in awe.

Back to School Night This Week

This year, Back to School night will be similar to years past. The event will be held on September 30, 2010. The schedule for the evening:
6:00 - 6:30 Morning Pre-School, Mrs. Sokol's Pre-School and Morning Kindergarten
6:30 - 7:00 Afternoon Pre-School, Afternoon Kindergarten and All Day Kindergarten
6:45 - 7:15 - Grades 1 and 2
7:00 - 7:30 - Grades 3 and 4

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. (Students and Parents)

I look forward to seeing you all there this Thursday evening!
