Kindergarten Registration Information

February 2010

Dear Parents of Incoming Kindergarten Children,

Kindergarten registration for the Wakefield Public Schools for September 2010 will take
place during the week of February 23 – February 26, 2010. On the reverse side of this letter,
you will find the school to which your child is assigned and registration periods for your
child’s school. Kindergarten Screening will take place at your child’s neighborhood school
during the week of March 15. Additional information on screening will be available when
you register your child. If you are interested in the All Day Kindergarten Program,
applications will be available at the screening. The current rate for All Day Kindergarten is
$3600 and is subject to review and/or change by vote of the School Committee at a future
date.

If you are unable to register your child on any of these dates, please contact the school office
at your earliest convenience. If, for any reason, you do not plan to enroll your child in the
Wakefield Public Schools Kindergarten program this coming September, please notify your
child’s neighborhood school either by telephone or by mail. If you know of families new to
your neighborhood with children who are eligible to attend kindergarten who might not have
received this mailing, please encourage them to contact the school office.

In accordance with School Committee Policy, children being registered for kindergarten must
be five (5) years of age on or before August 31, 2010. Please complete the enclosed forms
and please be sure to bring your child’s original birth certificate, as well as a copy to be left
with your registration form. You will also need proof of residency such as a telephone bill or
utility bill. Please refer to the enclosed sheet specifying the necessary health information that
must be on record before your child attends kindergarten in September 2010.
We look forward to working with you on behalf of your child(ren).

Sincerely,
Joan Landers
Superintendent of Schools
