Special Education Workshop

Special Education Basic Rights
Workshop January 31st
The Wakefield Special Education P.A.C will be sponsoring a Basic Rights in Special Education Workshop on Monday January 31st in the Wakefield High School cafeteria from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Attorney Elaine Cocroft will be the guest speaker. Ms. Cocroft is an Educational Advocate/Attorney who specializes in Disability Law. Attorney Cocroft adopted a special needs child from Ecuador 23 years ago and decided to specialize in disability law when she couldn't get any help for her child. She was a legal advisor for ARCH and has been in private practice for 15 years.

This workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Special Education Law and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). It is designed to help parents learn how to be effective partners with their child’s school to decide the child’s eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child’s progress in school. This event will provide parents with a question and answer period and is free and open to the public. If you need any further information you can contact Janine Cook at detwin@rcn.com.
