Wakefield Public Schools Participates in Math Workshop

Wakefield School Department employees from the 4 elementary schools and the Galvin Middle school recently attended a workshop entitled "How to Improve Mathematics Instruction for All Children" presented by Dr. Mahesh C. Sharma. . Professor Dr. Sharma is the founder and President of the Center for Teaching/Learning of Mathematics, Inc. He is the former President and Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge College. Dr. Sharma is internationally known for his groundbreaking work in mathematics learning problems and education, particularly dyscalculia and other specific learning disabilities in mathematics. He is an author, teacher, teacher-trainer, researcher, and consultant to public and private schools. Participants in the workshop were taught strategies for teaching our students in Wakefield. In addition, participants learned about the nature of mathematics content including: that math is the integration of space and quantity, every math idea has three components, there are six levels of knowing a math idea, and that there are key milestones in math conceptual development.
