On Monday and Tuesday, 2/28 and 3/1, Woodville School students enjoyed a program conducted by Melissa Stewart, the author of more than 130 children’s books on the topic of science. They learned how an author creates a book all the way from the idea to the publication of the book. Students had the opportunity to see rough drafts of the manuscript as well as sketches by the artist before final publication. Grades 3 and 4 were surprised how wide the wing spans of birds like bald eagles and blue herons are! They compared how long different birds live, how fast their hearts beat, and how much they weigh. The program was based on Melissa’s book, A Place for Birds.
