Many business and school leaders recently visited the Woodville School to read some favorite picture books to our students. At the Woodville School we value reading and appreciate those who help us to promote reading in children.

Community Spirit

Students at the Woodville School participated in a Spirit Day in which they could wear clothing from their favorite sports team and bring in food as a donation to the Wakefield Food Pantry. Each month, the Community Benefit Committee, a branch of our PTO, provides opportunities for our students to give back to our community.

Donation

A donation was given to help continue the Challenge Unlimited program that students from Wakefield participate in. Susan Hancock's donation was given in memory of her mother, Billie Lawrence. Mrs. Lawrence was thrilled to see her grandson horseback riding at Ironstone Farm and would have been glad to see the program continuing to help others.

Artwork for the Principal's Office

More artwork has been choosen to adorn the walls of my office from two first grade students. I love to see the creativity of our students!

Bus Safety

All Woodville students learned about bus safety and the method to safely evacuate the bus in the event of an emergency today. While only a small portion of our students ride the bus to and from school every day, all students take field trips throughout the school year.

Banking Program

Student bankers from Wakefield High School's branch of The Savings Bank came to Woodville this week to teach the students about "The C.L.U.B." (Children Learning to Understand Banking)

The purpose of the program is to teach children about the process of saving, the value of saving, and the function of a bank. Students receive a passbook account and they can bring their deposits to school each Tuesday. This is a great program and opportunity for our students.

Cooperation and Problem Solving in Phys Ed

Students in Mr. Feldman's Physical Education class are participating in a unit of cooperative games. In the current lesson, students need to get from one area of the gym to the other area using only two pieces of wood, a hoola hoop, and three bases. They are not allowed to touch the gym floor. The teams must work together and communicate their strategy to get from point A to point B.

Artwork for the Principal's Office

Three students were chosen by their art teacher, Ms. Beinart, to have their work displayed in Mr. Middleton-Cox's office. The artwork showcases the talented students we have here at the Woodville and brightens up the Principal's Office. Ms. Klee, our other art teacher, will select three of her students later this week.

Charlotte's Web

Mrs. Siafakas' third grade class is studying the book Charlotte's Web. A very clever student took it upon herself to create Charlotte's webs with the words she put in the webs. Also the class made alphabet pages, which will be turned into their own book. Great Job!

Respect Assembly

This week, we had our first school-wide assembly. Each month, we will meet as a school and learn more about one of the Core Values of the Woodville School: Respect, Caring, Cooperation, Honesty, and Responsibility. I will read the children a book illustrating that core value and present awards to students who have brought that value to life over the month. In addition, our 4th grade students shared a poem about respect and sang a song about respect with the help of their teachers. Over this next month, we are looking for students who demonstrate the core value of Caring!

Respect
To give respect to one another,
Treat them like a sister or brother.
Show someone that you really care,
Make sure to compromise and always be fair.
To give respect to someone else,
First you need to respect yourself.
To show respect you have to learn,
To give everyone a chance or a turn.
Respect everyone until the end,
A teacher, parent, and always a friend.
So don't forget to respect all,
Whether it is spring, summer, winter, or fall.

4th Grade Field Trip

This week, our 4th grade students and teachers went on a field trip to Salem, MA to visit Pioneer Village and the Peabody Essex Museum. They had a great time. I visited Mr. Bouchard's class on the next day to observe a lesson co-taught by Mr. Bouchard and Ms. Lyman, in which the students were writing about what they learned on the field trip.
