State Representative Paul Brodeur visited Ms. Florence Martin’s Kindergarten class at the Woodville School in honor of the 100th day of school. He read a story to the children and then presented the class and the school with a beautiful certificate in recognition of the 100th day of school at Woodville and encourages the students to always do their best work. The certificate was signed by Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, Representative Paul Brodeur, and Representative Don Wong. Principal Brian Middleton-Cox said, “It is such an honor for our state legislators to visit our schools and our students. I always love to get to show visitors the wonderful teaching and learning that is happening at the Woodville School and when the community recognizes that, it is much appreciated.”

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE- A REMINDER TO 4TH GRADE PARENTS

Massachusetts State law requires that all children in the fourth, seventh and tenth grade have a physical examination. Your child’s primary care physician should perform this physical and you should forward written documentation of an exam done after June 2010 to your child’s school.

If you already have the required paperwork at home please send it in to your school as soon as possible.

Please note – If you have difficulty scheduling an appointment with your child’s physician within the allotted time, please contact me at the Woodville School and I’ll make arrangements for our school physician, Dr. Kidd, to perform the physical exam when he visits our school in May (exact date not yet set).

PLEASE REMEMBER - A copy of a physical must be on file for your child to enter grade 5 at the Galvin Middle School in September. If the physical is to be done over this coming summer, please forward it to the Health Office at the Galvin before the first day of school. Thank-you!

Limiting Your Child's Online Access With Parental Controls

We all know that, as much as technology has opened new worlds to our children, it has also put them at risk of predators and of growing up too soon through exposure to things they shouldn’t see at their ages. It’s important for parents and caregivers to do all we can to help our children use technology safely and wisely. Here are some very important suggestions to put to work in your home:
• Be in control.
• Check with your provider.
• Be picky.
• Watch the clock.
• Sharing is bad.
• Get extra protection.
• Check their history.
Remember, experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, recommend that children spend no more than two hours a day using a computer, especially when on the Internet. It’s up to you to help them make sure that their spending that time wisely, and safely.
